Accommodation
Surrounded by magnificent gardens boasting Rhododendrons and Azaleas, you can choose to stay in the main building or in the delightfully secluded Hunting Lodge less than a minute’s walk from the main building. All our rooms at the MacKinnon Country House Hotel benefit from central heating, en-suite bathroom, direct dial telephone, colour television, hair drier and tea and coffee making facilities.
A very special feature in every en-suite bathroom is the fine array of beautiful toiletries made especially for you on the Isle of Arran.
The MacKinnon Country House Hotel built in 1912 by Major Archie MacKinnon was originally named Dunringell after his clan’s old fort near Elgol. Respected as an ideal example of a Scottish country house hotel, the MacKinnon has ten rooms in the main building. A further eight rooms in the Hunting Lodge provides the perfect setting for the romantic at heart!
Overlooked by the magnificent Sgurr na Coinnich mountain range and set in over four acres of magnificent gardens, the hotel has been awarded three stars by the Scottish Tourist Board.

The Fountain Restaurant

Good food served in a lovely room with stunning views of the gardens and the mountains beyond. The Fountain Restaurant is a huge favourite with our guests and local customers alike. Our Head Chef, while renowned for creating fine food and tantalising menus, will always be delighted to prepare your favourite dish if it doesn’t appear on the menu. An excellent wine list specially created for the Fountain restaurant will ensure your meal is a complete success.
The Fountain Restaurant is open from 19:00 till late every day.
As part of efforts to make your stay simply perfect, all of our produce is delivered fresh every morning from Inverness on the mainland.
 
The Garden Restaurant
Should you prefer a less formal evening, another enchanting room houses the Garden Restaurant. Open every day from 12 noon, last orders are taken at 18:00 with the Garden Restaurant closing at 19:00.
You will find all kinds of popular bar foods on the menu and some that are just that bit special!

Our hotel is perfectly located for touring. From the picturesque harbour here in Kyleakin to the rugged northern shorelines of the island, the Isle of Skye will enthral you.

This scenic part of the Scottish Highlands is famous for it’s spectacular mountain ranges and breathtaking sea lochs. You may also see a variety of wildlife while on the Isle of Skye. Watch out for buzzard, heron, golden eagle, otter, dolphin and maybe if you are lucky, a killer whale!
How to find us:
By Air
Inverness airport on the Scottish mainland is served by London airports. There are frequent flights to Scotland for our guests arriving on transatlantic flights. From Inverness guests can take either make the scenic railway journey or take a taxi.
By Car
According to a recent survery of sports car owners the A87 between Ivergarry and the Isle of Skye is the best road to drive in Britain! Participants voted for this road because of its "challenging turns and almost traffic-free motoring". (BBC News Article - Sept 2003)
The most direct route from the south is via the A87 from Invergarry. After crossing onto the Isle of Skye by bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh, turn left at the first roundabout and the you will find the entrance to the MacKinnon Country House Hotel just fifty yards on your right hand side.
By Rail
From the south take the train to Inverness. There you change to a train bound for Kyle of Lochalsh and you can enjoy a scenic journey that features in the book entitled ‘Most scenic train journeys in the UK.’ It really is a wonderful journey. At Kyle you can catch the bridge bus or take a taxi across to the hop to the island.
By Coach
Coaches’ travellers from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness can alight outside the hotel.
